  1. Why do I need to fill this position?

  2. Have a job description approved by the manager for whom the new hire reports.

  3. Hire from within the company whenever possible. Let employees know of job openings.

  4. Check references and other people in the industry who might know about the candidate.

  5. Look for character, integrity and accountability. A reputation for results.

  6. Search for the right person.

  7. Check non-compete agreements.

  8. Does the candidate have a basic knowledge of computers?

  9. Will the candidate fit into the company's future and culture?

  10. Ask, "If I owned the company, would I hire this candidate?"
